Being a witness at Criminal Court Case

You may have seen or heard something about a crime or perhaps you have been a victim of a crime. You have probably spoken to the police or a lawyer and told them about what you know. This is called making a statement.

After the police have investigated everything they may have sent a report to the procurator fiscal. The procurator fiscal is a lawyer whose job it is to decide whether a case should go to court.

You might have to tell the court about what you know. This is called giving your evidence.

Once you and any other witnesses have given their evidence a decision can be made about what has happened and what should happen next
