What happens before you go to court depends on the type of court you're going to.
In the case of Children's Hearing Court Proceedings, the children's reporter or the lawyer may want to ask you questions. This helps them to prepare for court.
In the case of Criminal Proceedings, the procurator fiscal or lawyer may want to ask you questions. This is known as 'precognition' and it helps them to investigate all the evidence and prepare the case for court.
In both cases, they will send you a letter telling you when they would like you to come to meet them.
