Courts and Court Proceedings

The Court of Session is the highest court in Scotland in which civil proceedings can be raised. It sits in Edinburgh.

The case is normally heard and the final decision made by a judge sitting alone, although sometimes in the Court of Session, a jury is involved and makes the decision.

The sheriff courts deal with most of Scotland's civil court business. There are sheriff courts throughout Scotland.

The sheriff will hear the case and make the final decision alone.
